Spring Hairstyle: The Crown Braid

The first day of spring in the northern hemisphere is less than two weeks away. Are you ready for a new look?

Check out this hairstyle: the crown braid.

The crown braid has been very popular in recent years. Why? It is a protective style. There are different variations. It works well on all hair textures and lengths shoulder-length or longer. It is easy to create and chic. You can also dress it up or down.  And who doesn’t like their hair up off their shoulders with the temperatures rise?

What you will need:

Steps:

  1. Part your hair in the front to shape the style. Do you want a middle part or a deep side part?
  2. If you don’t desire a part, brush/comb hair towards the back.
  3. Separate your hair into two sections (left and right). Secure one side with a hair clip.
  4. On the un-secured side, massage in a smoothing hair product, then starting along the hairline, grab a small section and divide in three parts.
  5. Going down the length of the hair, french braid or dutch braid the hair. This will involve picking up hair as you go. Make sure the braid isn’t tight but secure.
  6. When you can’t french braid the hair anymore, continue the style by simply plaiting the hair to the ends.
  7. Secure the braid at the end with an elastic or hair tie.
  8. Repeat the same method on the other side, which was previously secured.
  9. After both sections have been braided, pull the left braid to the right. Depending on your hair length, either go around the circumference of the head (see above pic) or keep the crown low (see below video). Tuck the ends into the braid to hide them.
  10. If your braid looks too tight in appearance, gently tug and loosen areas for a fuller look.
  11. Secure the crown braid with hair pins.
  12. Repeat on the opposite side. You should have a crown-like appearance.
