Cotton sheets and pillowcases can strip the hair of natural oils and can leave the hair susceptible to breakage. Silk (or satin) hair bonnets and scarves can be worn at night to protect the hair and keep it in place. Women of African descent are particularly vulnerable to hair dryness as their natural oils have difficulty reaching their ends due to their curl pattern.
